Many of us who ‘live’ in this world of developmental disabilities, whether as a parent or a professional long for the day when all our children, adults will be recognized for their strengths and their abilities; when they will be given opportunity and choice and treated with dignity and respect. In the meanwhile, as they exit school and enter the adult world, we often despair with the ‘now what?’ And we look for ways to ‘keep them occupied’. Does the average Joe also have to ‘be kept occupied’? Then why do our kids?
